大屋根の下で“離れ”を感じる

都心の中にありながら、豊かな緑とコミュニティ文化を育んできた東京アメリカンクラブ。
その象徴的な思想のひとつが、多様な人々が大きな屋根の下で緩やかにつながる「ジャイアントハウス」という考え方にある。

本計画は、その施設内にある宿泊エリアの改装計画である。
大きなコミュニティの一部でありながらも、少し距離を取り、自分自身の時間に静かに浸ることのできる場所を目指した。
それは日本における“離れ”のような存在であり、付かず離れずの距離感の中で、コミュニティの時間と個人の時間の両方を大切にする空間である。
“離れ”は、光や風、自然の気配を柔らかく取り込みながら、都市の中心にありながらも心地よく呼吸できる環境をつくり出す。
光の差し込む空間、光がゆっくりと伸びていく空間によって、都会の中にありながら自然を近くに感じられる静かなオアシスを構築した。

「ZEN」と名付けられたこの部屋では、自然環境をどのように室内へ取り込むかを丁寧に考えた。
大きな窓面から入る光を、直接的ではなく柔らかく空間全体へと拡散させることで、自然の美しさや移ろいに静かに意識が向くよう計画している。
自然の美を受け取り、万物に感謝する。 その思想が、光と素材を通して空間全体へ穏やかに伸びていくことを目指した。

A Retreat Beneath the Great Roof

Surrounded by greenery and a strong sense of community in the heart of Tokyo,
Tokyo American Club embraces the concept of the “Giant House” — a place where diverse people gather beneath one large roof.

This project renovates the accommodation area within the facility,
creating a space that feels like a Japanese “Hanare” — a quiet retreat that offers a gentle distance from the community while still remaining connected to it.
Soft light, breeze, and traces of nature are carefully drawn into the room, forming a calm oasis within the city.

Named “ZEN,” the space explores how natural beauty can quietly inhabit the interior through diffused light, natural materials, and a serene atmosphere.
The design aims to create a place where one can slow down, reconnect with nature, and appreciate the subtle beauty of everyday moments.
